This is a headline good track to find a semblance of outlook associated with the MS Exchange server. The principle is quite simple and obvious as for reasons of cost, good numbers of Exchange servers are not renewed and this was the case with us. A pretty Mdaemon came to challenge and replace the monument messaging services.

The MDaemon mail server is rather comprehensive and well developed, the user directories are readable and well organized, unlike Exchange, it is not lost in the endless maze of directories or database from a single block.

The purpose of this topic is demonstrated that it is possible to switch from Microsoft server and client outlook (still in use, of course, because even if the product is inexpensive but it is not up to the proposed combination Mr. Gates and despite the passing years).
Thus, no need Outlook Connector pay as your workstations will be equipped with Thunderbird, the mail client of Mozilla and go before you start anything by him grafted some extensions by simply clicking on your menu Tool -> Modules complementary. A dialog box opens and you click Get new extensions.

You upload and 3 plugins XPI format:

- Contacts Sidebar (version 0.7.1 for me)

- Lightning (version 0.8)

- Funambol plugin (version 0.4.3) for Windows or Linux depending on your bones.

Then configure your mail account in thunderbird with access to the MDaemon server via IMAP. Finally configure syncing with funambol and your MDaemon SyncML server which must be activated by default. Check the level of the configuration of your server. Similarly, reset a password on the SyncML user accounts if ever your authentication was rejected.

funambol plugin pim

Then you add your account in setting votrye address server and testing the url in the browser. You should get an error message like this:

Invalid Request - The MDaemon SyncML server does not support requests from web browsers. Only SyncML 1.0 and 1.1 clients are supported.

URL: http://votreserveur:3000/MDSyncML.dll

If you have not, either the default port was changed either your SyncML server is not active.
If you have, you can then add a user account and password. It only remains for you a step if you want to avoid looking like me for a while to have struggled to interpret the following error message:

Error: Alert for error 404

Remote Name

You must return to the setup in thunderbird funambol and synchronizing the tab to the right of Account. The default names assigned to the directory called on the mail server and are cal card which does not match our version of MDaemon in French appoints these directories Contacts and Calendar. Fix these two fields and select the directory where you want to synchronize and then click Synchronize and there is happiness.

Too bad the public folders to Exchange equivalent is not available or not so I found the method. We do not see unlike the Web interface provided, the files shared by other sales person. In planning appointments is to be tested.

This installation was done under Windows XP but if like me you have a pocket PC and would like to push the mail with your beautiful Windows Mobile. There are also associable with Funambol Outlook Mobile that works on the same principle as Thunderbird.

I am currently testing to validate this architecture, what version of Thunderbird are you using?

    Best regards.
